Description

Ambleside Schools International, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is seeking an energetic, cause-oriented development professional with a track record of success creating and executing fund development efforts to lead Ambleside’s comprehensive fund development initiatives.

 

The ideal candidate will work closely and collaboratively with the organization’s Executive Director, Founders, and marketing and communications professionals to build a wide and sustainable donor base and increase overall revenue. Currently, Ambleside has an annual budget of roughly $650,000, with roughly a third of that generated by contributions.

 

The Development Director’s main charge will be to increase the total dollars raised for restricted and operations revenue, to meet Ambleside’s mission to “inspire, train, and equip a global community of member schools and educators to provide a living education as described by Charlotte Mason for the renewal of Christian Education.”

Job Summary

The Director of Development (Director) works closely with the Executive Director in all development and fundraising endeavors. The Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all Ambleside Schools International (ASI) fundraising activities. The Director is responsible for meeting the fundraising goals reasonably created in cooperation with the Executive Director in a timely and professional manner. Responsibilities specifically include establishing strong relationships and regular communications with donors. When appropriate, the Director is responsible for personally asking for donations from potential donors.

 

Specific Responsibilities

  • Obtain adequate financial support and sponsorship for ASI in a timely manner.
  • Develop and organize each aspect of ASI’s fundraising strategy and activities in cooperation with the marketing team.
  • Define monthly, annual, and longer-term fundraising goals.
  • Create and maintain a workable monthly/annual budget(s) to manage feasibility and progress.
  • Create strategies and activities to address and accomplish each goal. Fundraising activities are to include:
    • Monthly donations
    • Major-gifts program
    • Annual fund
    • Planned-giving programs
    • Special events
    • Corporate gifts and sponsorship
    • Capital campaigns
    • Methods to accept noncash gifts (stock,real estate, vehicles)
  • Implement, manage, and evaluate each strategy and activity.
  • Create and utilize reports to analyze and measure the progress toward the fundraising goals and fundraising campaign effectiveness.

Additional Responsibilities

Budgeting - Participate actively in the annual and ongoing budgeting process. Fundraising and the associated activities are directly tied to monthly, annual, and long-term cash needs. The ongoing budget process forecasts these cash needs and will be the basis for fundraising activity and measurement of the success of those activities.

 

Donor Relations - Implement strategies to form strong relationships with donors and keep them informed on how their financial contribution is being utilized.

 

Human Resources - Recruit and train qualified people to assist with the development process. The hiring process will be based on a demonstrated need, the approval of the Executive Director, and subject to budget and available resources.

 

Marketing - Work closely with the marketing team to assure ASI brand standards in all integrated communications and promotional material for all fundraising activities, events, and campaigns.

 

Relationship Management - Become proficient in using ASI’s donor management software (Bloomerang) to manage relationships and data related to the fundraising process. Assure that data is input promptly and kept current. Utilize the full record-keeping/reporting capability for appropriate donor communications and management reports.

 

Salary/Benefits

Commensurate with experience and other qualifications, within a band of $65,000-90,000.

Requirements

  • Must embrace the mission of Ambleside Schools International.
  • Strong communication skills, including written, interpersonal, and verbal.
  • Have the desire to “get out of the office” and build external relationships.
  • Be a “self-starter” and goal-driven to initiate donor visits and fundraising calls.
  • Be organized and exhibit “follow through” on tasks and goals.
  • Demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense, and good listening ability.
  • Concern for people and community.

Specific Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree or the equivalent.
  • Ten years minimum experience in professional fundraising.
  • Experience and success in writing grant proposals.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in fundraising theories, principles, and procedures.
  • Excellent computer skills and Microsoft Office suite proficiency.
  • Proficient with social media platforms.
  • Experience in managing and tracking the funds received from donors and analyzing the collected data.
  • Knowledge in basic principles of fund development.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
