Faith Commitment

Parent and teacher have no greater responsibility than cultivating a child’s joyful and obedient relationship with a loving God.

“The soul of man is for God, as God is for the soul.” The soul has one appetite, for the things of God; breathes one air, the breath, the Spirit of God; has one desire, for the knowledge of God; one only joy, in the face of God. “I want to live in the Light of a Countenance which never ceases to smile upon me” is the language of the soul. The direct action of the soul is all Godward, with a reflex action towards men.

There is no greater truth than the love of God revealed in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is in the love of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit that we discover fullness of life. Thus, Ambleside Schools International is committed to historical orthodoxy as expressed in the Nicene Creed, to personal communion with Jesus Christ, Immanuel — God with us, and to moral conduct consistent with Scriptural norms.

The employees of Ambleside Schools International and Ambleside Schools come from diverse faith backgrounds. All, however, share a common commitment to their ever-present, resurrected Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, to the central teachings of the New Testament, and to historic Christian orthodoxy. Thus, without reservation, faculty and staff of Ambleside Schools International and Ambleside Schools affirm the Nicene Creed.

Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit, he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father [and the Son.]* With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.

*A later addition by the western church, this phrase is not accepted by Eastern Orthodox churches
